Alive and Well!

Six Figure Artists is alive and well… individually. As a group, we are in frequent communication, but circumstances prevent us from gathering and painting together as a group as frequently as we once did.

Perhaps we will reconvene in the near future. Certainly we all love to share our time in front of the easel, as we have a powerful and joyous chemistry as a creative group.

For now, we are each leaning hard into the creative process because for every member of the group, doing so gives us energy and light. Please visit our individual websites:

Pearl Exhibit Reception: Friday, July 24, 2009

The successful "Six Figure Artists" reception, which opened on June 30, is slated to close on August 2. We hope you will join us on Friday, July 24, from 6:00-8:00 pm, for a free public reception.

The event represents a chance to meet the artists, and also to view the successful execution of a concept that highlights the different perspectives (both literally and artistically) that each artist uses in rendering a common subject.

In addition, each of us created a second, smaller painting that is an extension of the artist's individuality, to hang alongside the group subject.

Six Figure Artists consists of: Lesley Humphrey, Marty Hatcher, Liz Hill, Fred Hulser, Dawn McKelvy and Howie Doyle. The group's artists practice a variety of painting mediums and styles, but each is dedicated to continuous creative growth and development. We have been meeting twice a month in the Tomball area since November 2006.

Six Figure Artists is united as a group around the human figure as an ideal subject, with each member dedicated to exploring and sharing the figure's unlimited artistic possibilities.

Successful Demo on July 11

The entire Six Figure Artists group showed up on "Family Day" at the Pearl Fincher Museum, Saturday, July 11, to do a public demonstration of painting from life. Some of us took up charcoals, some water media, and some oil paints. The results were wonderful, and over 250 attendees streamed through the demo area as we worked! (Photos courtesy of Fred Hulser.)

New Figurative Work: Koi

I just finished this piece yesterday. The colors, composition, and viewpoint all reminded me of Japanese koi.

Six Figure Artists Museum Exhibit opens June 30!

For this, our first collective museum showing, each member artist of Six Figure Artists has painted the same model during the same session, showing the different perspectives (both literally and artistically) that each artist uses in rendering a common subject. In addition, each has created a second, smaller painting that is an extension of the artist's individuality, to hang alongside the group subject.

The first annual "Just Figures" Art Crawl will be held on April 3-5, 2009 in the Woodlands, Texas. With three participating galleries, approximately 200 works from 15 of the area's most accomplished artists will reintroduce the human form to the local art scene.
